Employers in the know.

The recent amendments in immigration regulations not only impact visa holders but also entail changes for accredited employers. These modifications encompass the following key updates:

  1. Timely Notification Requirements: Accredited employers are now mandated to inform Immigration New Zealand within 10 working days in two specific scenarios:

    • If there are changes in the key personnel associated with the accreditation.

    • If a work visa holder, who is accredited under the employer, terminates their employment.

To facilitate these notifications, employers can utilize designated communication channels:

  • For alterations in key personnel, employers can reach out to the employer line at 0508 967 569.

  • To report the departure of an employee, employers are required to complete a specific form and submit it to AEWVEmployerDeclarations@mbie.govt.nz.

With many employers approaching Accreditation renewal, let's revisit the fundamental obligations of accredited employers:

  1. Settlement Assistance: Accredited employers are responsible for assisting their visa holder employees with settlement activities, ensuring a smooth transition into New Zealand.

  2. Completion of Employer Modules: Employers must undergo the employer modules provided by Employment NZ within 12 months of obtaining accreditation.

  3. Compliance with Eligibility Criteria: Key personnel associated with accredited employers must maintain eligibility for accreditation and adhere to all relevant employment and immigration laws.

Moreover, accredited employers are expected to serve as local guides, assisting accredited employer work visa holders with essential information about the local community and services. This includes details on:

  • Accommodation options.

  • Transportation facilities, including driving regulations, public transport, etc.

  • Cost of living considerations.

  • Access to healthcare services.

  • Services provided by the Citizens Advice Bureau.

  • Relevant community groups.

  • Procedures for obtaining an IRD number from Inland Revenue.

  • Industry-specific training, qualifications, job prospects, and potential hazards.
